Foreword (2010)

The second occasion of The Dean’s Awards for excellence in the field of ICT was held on the 21st May. At this year’s ceremony, the Dean of the Faculty of ICT at the University of Malta, Dr. Ernest Cachia, presented awards to eighteen students placing first, second and third in each of the various B.Sc. (Hons) ICT undergraduate day and evening courses offered by the Faculty during the academic year 2008/2009. Students who made the Dean’s List this year were awarded certificates and book tokens.

The event was presided by the Rector, Professor Juanito Camilleri, and was attended by all the Heads of Departments and Course Co-ordinators within the Faculty of ICT, all the Administrative complement, and a sizable entourage of University officials, including Ms. Veronica Grech (the Registrar), Professor Robert Ghirlando (Dean of the Faculty of Engineering), and Professor Charles V. Sammut (Dean of the Faculty of Science). In congratulating the students for their achievements, Dr. Cachia stressed the exclusive importance of valuable human capital in terms of the Faculty’s student contingent, and expressed his pride at the quality effort shown by the Faculty’s students. Dr. Cachia wished all the students present further success and satisfaction in their studies. Dr. Cachia also thanked all those present for showing their support through their attendance at the event.

Dr. Cachia noted that this is the second time the Dean’s List Awards event was being organised and it bore witness to the faculty’s stability and the maturity of its students. The Faculty of ICT, through its dynamic academic and administrative staff, is continuously striving to provide its students with relevant courses and research opportunities. Dr. Cachia also mentioned that the fundamental notions of quality, relevance and professionalism, were a cornerstone of the new faculty, and that highly qualified, diligent, and considerate staff, both academic and administrative, undoubtedly lie at the root of all this. Dr. Cachia thanked all those involved in making the event a success.

Professor Juanito Camilleri highlighted that the University of Malta is proud of its students and with this event the Faculty of ICT is celebrating excellence. The University of Malta will always be there to help these students in progressing with their profession and studies both in Malta and abroad.
